Patterned Chalkboards


I'm super excited to share a fun idea with you.  
I read about this product


 which turns almost any surface into a chalkboard.
It is sooo cool, my brain is kind of on overload 
with the possibilities.


All you do is paint one coat vertically; let it dry for 1 hour.
Then paint a second coat horizontally, and let it dry 1 hour.
Seriously - That's It!


One of my favorite applications, so far, has been to turn a
piece of scrapbook paper into a patterned chalkboard.
After gluing the scrapbook paper to a piece of cardboard to 
add substance, I simply painted it with 2 coats of the
chalkboard coating - and my project was finished.

It is so cute, and I think it would make a wonderful gift.

I think the entire cost for my chalkboard
is about $1.50, including the garage sale frame.

1929 Powder Room

To share the update of our downstairs bathroom, 
I thought I would just let you look around.  

 
This bathroom was original to the house.
 However, in the 1940's a shower was added from a  
space that had been a hallway to the 
porte-cochere of the house.  

 
The outside doorway was bricked in and a 3/4 bath 
with walk-in shower was created.


The shower is located behind this arched door.


The built-in shelves next to the shower 
are quite accessible and handy.


It is located right off the kitchen on the main floor.


This bathroom is only 4' x 8' which is
making it hard to get good shots.


When we remodeled, 
we installed all Kohler fixtures.


I picked up this old tin ceiling tile
at an antique mall when I recently went
to Grapevine, TX.  It was a birthday
present I bought for myself 
from Edward. 


And this little aluminum soap dish has
been in Edward's family for a long time.  He thinks it was his uncle's in WW II.
It is so pretty.

Vintage Bathroom Clock

In my last post found here, I shared a couple of signs I made for our bathroom update by personalizing some images from The Graphics Fairy.


 With that same thought, I also upcycled a clock using another of Graphics Fairy's personal care vintage labels.


I purchased this clock for $1 at a garage sale.  I liked its smaller size, but the flowers just were not working anywhere in our house.


After looking through Graphics Fairy's round labels, I decided the script on this would make the cutest clock.


To make it look more like I clock, I married the design with this clock face also found on GF.  I'll do a tutorial soon and show you how I did this.


Next, I printed my updated image onto off-white scrapbook paper.  I was going to mod podge it, but my printer is an ink-jet and the ink smeared on my sample.  Instead, I sprayed several layers of this Krylon Matte Clear to the front and back of the image.  Later when it was dry, I cut the clock face to fit the clock and decoupaged it in place.  By the way, I first painted the clock white to ensure the colorful flowers would not bleed through.


That's all there was to it!  It is the perfect size, and now the perfect look for our bathroom.
